Calibration Of Your Vehicles Safety Cameras
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are systems developed to automate/adapt/enhance vehicle systems for safety and better driving. Safety features are designed to avoid collisions and accidents by offering technologies that alert the driver to potential problems, or to avoid collisions by implementing safeguards and taking over control of the vehicle ( i,e autonomous emergeny braking ). Adaptive features may automate lighting, provide adaptive cruise control, automate braking, incorporate GPS/ traffic warnings, connect to smartphones, alert driver to other cars or dangers, keep the driver in the correct lane, or show what is in blind spots. Advanced driver assistance systems are one of the fastest-growing segments in automotive electronics. This means when it comes to replacing your windscreen, the replacement becomes more complex which requires these new technologies incorporated into your vehicle to be “recalibrated”. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) are already standard on models from Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Volvo. What’s more, from 2016 only cars equipped with AEB will qualify for a 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating. Combine this with the fact that many insurers are already offering big discounts for AEB-equipped cars and even a dummy can see that ADAS will soon be the norm. With an ADAS-equipped vehicle, the camera and sensors must be accurately calibrated after many everyday workshop procedures including wheel alignment, axle geometry or windscreen replacement. Until now, this vital procedure could only be carried out by main dealers.
Below are a list of the most common ADAS systems:Adaptive cruise control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive head lights, Adaptive light control, Automatic braking system (ABS), Automatic parking, Blind spot monitors, Pedestrian monitors, Proximity monitors, Driver drowsiness detection, Collision avoidance system & Forward collision warning.
The Premier Approach
Premier Windscreens, Scotland’s leading independent repair and replacement company are at the forefront of this industry changing technology.
If claiming via your insurance we can invoice this as a single claim*. Otherwise you will have a windscreen replacement claim plus additional invoice for dealership calibration which you would be required to pay in full for calibration then reclaim back from insurance company. Failure to calibrate or refusal of calibration may invalidate your warranty and could possibly effect your insurance in the event of an accident. *subject to insurance company
When and why does ADAS cameras need calibrated?
Most Vehicle manufacturers recommend that after a windscreen replacement the system must be calibrated to ensure that when the vehicle is back on the road and that the ADAS safety feature is operating correctly.
If the camera is misaligned then this could have a significant impact on the functionality of the system, particularly at speed. Small unexpected changes in the angle of the camera can mean the difference between a vehicle avoiding a crash or not.Calibration Required: After Windscreen Replacement. If a fault code shows on dashboard. Replacement of ECU. Replacement or Disconnection of Camera. Change of Suspension, Wheel Alignment.
